Behold, the world’s most sophisticated Android trojan

Ars technica:

Recently discovered malware targeting Android smartphones exploits previously unknown vulnerabilities in the Google operating system and borrows highly advanced functionality more typical of malicious Windows applications, making it the world’s most sophisticated Android Trojan, a security researcher said.

Be careful with your great open system.

Android’s Market Share Is Literally A Joke

Tech Opinions, John Kirk:

Scoring by market share alone and ignoring profit is like saying that a baseball team won because it had more hits when the other team scored more runs.

The entire piece is a gem, and every stupid tech pundit and blogger should read it and educate themselves a little bit.

Of course, what matters to them is page views and link bait, not real analysis or opinion.

Apple's iPad dominates online shopping traffic & revenue generation

Appleinsider:

The data culled from the first quarter of calendar 2013 shows that Apple’s iPad still accounts for nearly 9 out of every 10 tablets that browse e-commerce websites.

Are the gazillion Android tablets being sold being used as tablets, or as paperweights?

In 2013, the keys to Android are still held by the carriers

The Verge:

The classic complaint about Android’s so-called “openness” is that it’s open to the carriers, not to the consumers. Though we’ve made some progress, we’re not there yet: the flagship Android phones of 2013 are still being locked down by the flagship carriers.

Not exactly OPEN, right?

iPad is top selling tablet, but Android now most common tablet OS, says IDC

Three things:

  • Shipping is not the same as selling. Apple reports sold items. That means they reached someone’s hand. Shipping just means that Best Buy, Radio Shack, Costco, Wal Mart, etc, bought items for their store inventory. Oranges and Apples.
  • Why is it then, that web usage is completely dominated by Apple time after time, report after report? Do the people who buy these tablets not realize they can surf the web?
  • Apple keeps selling more units than any one of these other manufacturers. What these numbers really mean, is that the entire market is growing and even though Apple sells more and more each quarter, it will obviously get less percentage. It’s not that Apple is falling behind, it’s that the market is growing overall. Almost 50 million units this quarter, against 20 million the year ago quarter is amazing growth, while the PC markets keeps slowing down. Steve Jobs was right, this is a Post-PC era.

Numbers game: Why analyst says iPhone market share will exceed Android

Ok, I’m an iOS user and really like the iPhone, but these predictions seem a little bit crazy to me. Sounds like the time some analysts were saying that Windows Phone would beat the iPhone. You can say anything with numbers and graphs, but I don’t buy it.

Samsung Delays Release of Security Software for Galaxy Phones

NY Times:

In February, Samsung Electronics introduced Knox, a version of Android with security features to make the company’s phones more suitable for businesses, expected for release this spring. But the company has delayed the release of the software until summer, according to two people briefed on the company’s plans.

An insecure OS with delays on the enterprise security software that’s supposed to make it business ready and secure. That’s the wonder of samesung, and Android for that matter.
